Another day, another amazing Tim Ferriss post!
In my experience, one of the things surefire ways to de-rail your new project is sharing a bunch of ideas with senior stakeholders and asking them for their thoughts.
Why?
Well, put yourself in the shoes of a Director/senior stakeholder. The chances are they’ve just come from a series of meetings - probably very challenging ones. They might be thinking ‘finally some respite to talk to the team’.
But then they get the question ‘what are your thoughts?’. It’s super vague and you’re not sure what your thoughts are really. So you have to ask the team loads of questions instead to work out what your thoughts are.
This is where the derailment happens. The team has lost control of the meeting.
Instead, you should propose a solution, back it up with evidence and always propose next steps.
What are your thoughts? Does this resonate with you?
